1875 Jany 13th Raining & freesing, this morning 14 Hung up Tobacco in Barn back of Garden Fired wood on plant Bed ready to Burn on Path & Branch toward Martha Neals [& moderate] 15 Burning it to day fine day for it [clear] [??pus] to have it 14 or 15 yds square Hauled out straw last evening put Some in Rack Some in Shuck house & some in Granary Davy moved his hogs above his house next to orchard - 16 Fixing Plowing [Hoeing] &C fencing & Covering plant Bed towards Martha Neals this morning & sewing it. Put 19 [lbs] Guano Hen Manure & Hog Hair 17 Weather moderated Some at home to day Somewhat cloudy but not much to day 18th cloudy & mist Rain falling getting wood soon that morning quite cold -- Hung up Pork & getting wood, cloudy & like for Rain 19th Davy & Edmd cut down slab Tree & [sawed] off 2 cut then cut wood for Plant Bed 20th Cutting & Halling dry wood for Plant Bed David Fitzgerald Sick Rachael in his place 21 Burning Plant Bed above the road on Branch [Johns] David Fitzgerald Sick & took Physic last night cloudy & cold to day but still, Place where are burning is an excellent one Sam Roper or Gilbert taken for a [lunatic] & sent to asylum about a week ago [?????????] with us - 22 they have gone [??] Plant Bed or Johns with Guasno Hen Manure to Colter in chop & fix ready to sew this morning & its raining about 9 or 10 oclock David Sick yet 23 Edmond Dews went after Dr Wooding for David Fitzgerald he did not come but said he would come to day clear morning. Edmd Tucker & Robt come cut down old [aspin] & Carried it by Sun rise Edmd Dews got back by light is finishing plant Bed on Johns Branch, its [???ed] & we will cover it & finish fence around it

1875 Jany 25th Raining freesing & sleet this morning Jerre & Mr Wm W Moses came here last night Raining till 10 or 11 oclock & stoped Dr. Wooding call to who is better this morning. he told me himself 26 Jany. Davy Fitzgerald is worse than he was yesterday morning cleared off this morning sent Jamie to Mill for ourself & Edmond Dewes - Edmd Cutting wood for us Jere & Mr M left this morning. 27th Cutting & Hauling wood Straw &C to day I Went to Mr Farthings to have Miss F Leakes Shoes to Millers Mill & got my Bag & papers & [Litt??] 28 Raining this morning Hauled up 1 Stack fodder of my fodder [So???] from below the House & put in Granary. & wood for Davy Fitzgerald, - weather moderate Hauled up [Sowy] Stack fodder below Davys Fitz House last week Sometime [Sorry] 29 Raining nearly all night Striping Tobacco in new prize Barn this morning I went to Mount Airy last evening for Jacob Weather moderate at this time 30th Striping Tobacco in new prize Barn Jimmie gone after Doct. Wooding for Davy Fitzgerald, Martin Smith mending [Jimmies] Shoes clear this morning tolerable moderate weather 31st Jany Cloudy & like for falling weather I went over to see Miss Nancy Neale Feby 1st Clear & very cold ground [?????] as a [????] Cutting & getting wood Davy sick yet Doct Wooding here yesterday to see Davy [making] 2 visits, went his Brothers from here 2 Jimmie Hauling wood for Davy F who I think is better Edmond cutting in new ground by Barn weather not quite so cold as yesterday I went to Mt Airy got no papers 3rd Raining this morning striping Tobacco weather weather moderate 4th Turned very cold Cutting by new prize Barn to day- Windy

1875 Feby 5th Friday Clear pretty Cold morning Thermometer down to 5 Degrees cutting wood Davy got Ed to send Jimmie for Doct Wooding 6 Hauling wood Kate & Mr Moses here last night Doct Wooding came agin to See Davy [Fitzg] clear & tolerable moderate day Mr M & K gone 7 Cloudy & very cold this day & began to snow 10 & 12 Oclock & snowed here near night over 1 inch deep Doct Wooding Came to See Davy Fitzg Thermometer down to zero at light it was 1 degree below zero quite Still cold morning the 8 day of Feby coldest morning since I lived here 9 David F Rather, better than he was yesterday very cold & snow not melted much not as cold by 4 degrees this morning as yesterday cold wind from from North. Ed is Cutting wood for David F. & Hauling Dr. Wooding Come to see Davy F yesterday morning 10 Wednesday very cold & fair being 4 [Severe] cold days Cutting in new ground Large white Boar been with my hogs for about 6 weeks or more 11th Doing but little Snowed & Hailed & Rained last night & this morning about 2 Inches Deep making 2 Snowa & 3 Hails this winter not very cold this morning Davy F. sick yet Wooding been here 4 times to see him Smoking our [Folk] Fannie W Moses youngest child Joseph Jacob died about 11 oclock to day - 12 Fannie W. Moses little Boy is to be buried here to day pretty considerable sleet this morning Edmd Dews Edmd Tucker & Edmd Cook Digging Grave now, clear & cold Snow about 2 Inches Deep making 2 Snows 13th Weather Turned Moderate I went to Meeting at S S not many poeple at meeting Mr Booker there Edmond getting Wood Jimmie Hauling Dr W. here I hear Davy F Some better Fannie went home

1875 Feby 14th Cloudy & like for falling weather I am to unwell to go to Strait Stone Meeting Snow melting Smartly yesterday very few [there] yesterday 15th Edmd cutting sent Jimmie to Mill 2 1/2 Bus wheat for flour did not get that got my Chop & meal for Edmd & Davy --- I went & [??led] my Planks Mr Jno W Laine help & Ralp help Piled & all Sawed for weather boarding instead of Plank to build a House none Sawed right 16th I went to Mr Farthings after Miss F. Leaks shoes & carried mine to 1/2 Sole Ed cutting & Hauled wood in evening for Davy who is I think worse this morning Dr Wooding here 17 Ed gone after medicine for Davy who is worse I think Jimmie gone to Millers got all &[1/6] for [Bag] misplaced Mill after flour Bran &C - cloudy & cold Davy Fitzgeral Died this morning 18 Clear & cold Sent [Lester] to Post office for Doran [Hant] Davy Fitzgerald will be burried to day - Jimmie & Wm Carried Mules to Frank Wrights Shop to put pr Shoes on Tom before & 1 new on Molley & to bring back [ps] Iron for Henry Dillard, which I owe him for last year 19th Began to Snow this morning about Sun rise & snowed till about 9' or 10 clock & stoped Hauling wood to day Hauled up Straw yesterday Killing Turkeys to Send to Lynchg to Sell. 6 to be Killed 20th Rained & Hailed some last night & at it again raining this morning [Star] had a Calf unexpectedly last night & it is Dead very bad night. Rain melting the Snow which was 1 1/2 In. deep 21. Snow & Ice nearly all gone yesterday some little cloudy weather little moderated 22nd Edmond started up to J R Whiteheads With my wife & Miss Frankey Leake & 6 Turkeys to send to Lynchg very pretty day over head, but [such] roads I hardly ever the mules could not get along With the empty waggon, hired a Horse from Bro

Feby Frank Blanks to pull before the Mules nearly 1/2 the way up to Depot and Saw them up to [Reid] Creek & I Turned back & in the night before I got home, had to find my Cows & have them fed & milked in the day 23rd Cloudy this morning & doing not much weather moderate 24th [Tuesd] Wednesday Raining this morning (the word Tuesd is crossed off) & rained nearly the Blessed day 25th Rained all night last night hard liked to have Washed the Bridge & corn House tryed to get Henry Templetons Horse yesterday if it had cleared off to go after Nannie but could not get him too [wild]. If it clears off I am now going to Send Jimmie over to Edmonds Tucker to See If I Can get his Son Robt. & his Horse to go. to meet the Waggon If the Water Coarses are not too high & help get Nannie & the waggon Home once once last it Thundered & lightened very hard. 26th Nannie come down to Mr Laines day before yesterday & stayed all night there & come home to day Mr Jacob Lains came with them hitched his mule before water too high at Strait Stone had to go by Keens place to get home & come home in the Rain Striped a little Tobacco this evening every thing is very wet & muddy cleared off that night about night & turned Turned cooler & got some wood 27 Edmond went to help H Templeton Jimmie went to Mr Farthings after shoes & Leather I went to Straight Stone Grange very windy in - evening Nannie Whitehead Came home with my wife 28 Beautiful day I am at home, March 1st Raining & Hailing a little Ed gone to help Toby roll Logs Jim Hauling Ed come back & it rained all day Jim did not hall but One load of wood 2nd March 1875 Still cloudy rained nearly all night clear about day Striping Tobacco.-
