Verona. 4/1/1876.

Dear Gov. Stone

I have heard from several that there was a probability of Judge Kilpatrick being an applicant for the Circuit Judge-ship of his District, and if such is the case, your obedient servant will most highly appreciate any favorable consideration you may think proper to give him. This is the first request of the kind I have ever made, and I desire further to say that I would not have you confer any favor on any one "which I am confident you will not do" unless they are in your opinion thoroughly competent to discharge the duties of the office, and as you know the Judge well - it is useless for me to say any thing more.

I am truly delighted to know that one so capable and deserving occupies the Executive chair of the State of Miss. and may all your labors be crowned with success, and give universal satisfaction to all the People
