Greenville Miss July 24th 1866.

Hon. Benj. G. Humphreys
Governor of the State
of Mississippi

Dr Sir:

I have just signed a petition to you for the purpose of having a young friend of mine pardoned from the sentence of imprisonment just past on him by the County Court of this county. I did not witness the trial and cannot therefore say anything with reference to the merits of the case, but with reference to the young man himself I will say that he is a member of one of our oldest and best families, the Son of Wm. H. Lee, of this county, and should you think fit to extend to him the Executive Clemency, I am free to say that I think it would be worthily bestowed, and very gratifying to many of your friends in this section who, for want of time [deleted]have[/deleted] to see [them?], have not signed this petition. Very Respectfully Your obt. Svt.
