men's getting it into their heads that a certain form of reasoning is sound because a large number of cases it has led to true conclusions and so being led to apply it to cases which differ from those cases in respects which, if remarked at all, are sat down as insignificant when in truth they make all the difference between good reasoning and bad.
A demonstration might be given of everything I shall advance.
But even if demonstrations can be followed when they are rapidly delivered by a speaker at a distance while there are people about the auditor, there is no time then ofr the deliberate and repeated critical scrutiny to which they ought to be subjected before they are fully trusted.
I do not see therefore, that there will be any other way than for you to take notes and go over them with the necessary care after you get home.
