A logical discussion of the numbers of values of these shows is, with a close approach to certainty, that a certain position of the whole collection of which we can say that they are of two kinds, some of them having been intended to conform to one standard and the rest to a second standard.
But we are unable to guess which is which.
This happens so frequently that it is desirable to have a name for this kind of division where the number of parts is a matter of fact but where the divisions are to be made is more or less a matter of fancy; and I propose to call ramicrime from ramus, a bough and cerno to distinguish, we speak of discernment but the Romans did no say discernimen but diserimen and since we change crimen to crime in the same principle we ought to say discrime instead of discernment
