iculty with parties here is that freights are too high from here to points on the Coast - much higher than from San Francisco, & they are not well acquainted with the San Francisco markets. I can buy bricks at $2 (per ton) less here than in California but the brick dealers have been unable to make any arrangements for freighting. Mr. Ben Simpson's agent this week tried what he could do in the matter, but gave it up as useless. I do not think anyone but Mr. Simpson can compete with the bid of Mr. Brown, but I will know by the 5th of August. I would respectfully request to be informed by telegraph if I am authorized to contract at once for the erection of the Dwelling at Cape Foulweather with the lowest bidder: the amount of course will not exceed that in the enclosed bid.
