Captn Metcalfe RN "Jean & Jessie" 15th March / 56

Dr Sir
I was so much occupied yesterday
and the day before that I had not
time attentively to read the "Jean & Jessie"s
papers - By the united declaration
of Williamson and Smith it appears
that the Jean & Jessie left her Anchor
after riding to a gale from North and
N N E consequently the chain would
tread South or S S W - whereas they state
that anchor 148/1855 was picked up with
chain to the Eastward - consequently
must have been left by a Vessel riding
with the wind from Westward - and as
the letter from Dundee gives no
description - and it does not appear
that Messrs Bramble have exhibited to you
