Friday 12 very warm and rain
is much needed Visited the
hospital in the morning
with the Col order came
this evening to Pack up all
but the tents and be ready
for a march is Suspected(?)
dont where we are going
or when we are going
Saterday 13 left Berryville 1/2 past ten
oclock Rebels in close upon us Alex
Bettery fired upon them started for
winchester. Rebels pressing us the entire
day six oclock in the evening they attacked
our reg and at opekin creek our whole
Brigade in line of Battle drove
the Rebels Back 5 or six of our men
wounded 2 in Co. E of the 6th Md one
in the foot the other in both hands
Badly I assisted the doctors in amp
utating his finger and dressing his
wounds. arrived at winchester at ten ocl
at night laid on the wet ground
all night. very dark Cant see what
around me no dinner no
supper marched on foot -- part of the
time rode on a cannon carriage
