5th June 1865 [unclear] Jerry gone to
Fannies Richard & Sallie to Mr Glenns & this
evening all came home & after we
had returned for the night I heard somebody
walk around my House & got up & saw
more than one man pass the window
towards big room I ask who it was
said all right. They said they wanted to
See me. I asked them who they were
They said first they were strangers
Guards from CH. to see me I put
on my clothes lighted the Candle &
opened The Door & 5 Men Came in
all armed they asked me If my
name was not Capt Graves I told them
it was they asked me If I did not
have a son in law. I told them
I did & Called him up & as soon
as they all got up they took my shot
Gun sitting by secretary & hand it to one
of their party & said myself Jerry & J R
Whitehead might consider ourselves
under arrest till they searched
my house. I had taken the Oath
off Allegiance to the U States
