most distinguished of these Steinthal and Sayce are men of great genius but not distinguished for the caution of their positions even written their own specialities.
When Sayce says that "had Aristotle been a Mexican his system of logic would have assumed a wholly different form" I am willing to admit that there is a good deal of truth in that.
It is lucky that Aristotle's only language was one that led him into as far errors as did the Greek.
But so far am I from finding in this remark any encouragement to trust to the indieations of language as evidence of logical necessity that it seems to me to go quite the other way.
The mere name of Steinthal no doubt overawes many especially among those who have not read his principal books at least not critically.
Moreover it must not be forgotten that it is the usual practice of those Europeans who write grammars of non-Aryan
