A shower this morning
but a clear evening.

Ben & Jim sowed peas this
morning. This evening Ben cut
wheat for Lee Brumfield.
Oskar Brumfield thined
corn
for Ben. Edna and I
thined 26 rows this evening.

Josie made Ben two shirts
today. I caned some beets. The
first that I ever caned.
I choped a little in the
garden & replanted some
cucumber hills. Put up some
onions. We are getting plenty
vegatables now.

Ben W. Brumfield

Is this the first time that Julia has canned beets, or the first time she's canned anything? I gather that canning as a practice was just spreading in the late 19th and early 20th century.
