A very bad day. The ground was covered with snow & ice and it rained most of the morning. Ben & Jim could not work at any thing much. Jim kept a good fire at the dining room. Ben went to Renan late this evening. He went horse back. He carried Kate Harvey some quilting frames. Henry went to school. I cooked the break fast & churned and killed a chicken and d[r]essed it. Josie cooked the dinner and made ice cream. We all did enjoy it. Josie got a letter from Carrie. I got one from Effie Brumfield and three of their pictures.

A cloudy day most of the day. Some snow on the ground yet. Jim & Ben sawed some wood in the woods. Jim & Nellie and Josie caught some chickens to night. Ben went to Renan after a crate he wanted. He walked and toated it home.

Josie got dinner. She is not well and I see trouble a bout her. I am not doing much and it hurts me for her to have so much to do. Nellie wants to go home in the morning. I am afraid it will be raining. Hope not. The roads is so bad that they will have to go on a waggon if they go.

A rainy morning. Rained most of the night. The trees was covered in ice this morning. Not heavy enough to brake them. Josie baked a cake for Nellie. Nellie dressed a chicken to take home with her. I let her have some butter. They borrowed Norman Bookers buggy and started home a bout two oclock in the evening. It has not rained since they left. I do hope that they got to Gretna in time to take the train. At this time the roads is very bad. None of feel good and the wether is depressing on a well person. We should be thankful of the good that we have.
