Light-House Establishment Office of Engineer, Thirteenth District, Portland, Oregon., Oct. 18 1889. 21 Enclosures

Subject:

The Light-House Board, Washington , D.C. Sirs: I have the honor to request authority for the following repairs to be made at Cape Foulweather Light Station, Oregon,

viz:

Cementing Cellar Floors, $254.00 The present floors are of brick which absorb and retain the moisture, causing the floor joist, sills, etc. to rot and making the cellars unfit for use. As this space is needed by the keepers it is proposed to put in concreting over the brick floors and where require, to cement the walls. Drainage of grounds, $83.00 The natural slopes of the grounds around the dwelling are such as to cause the water to run towards the cellars, and

keep the foundation walls of the dwelling constantly damp. To avoid this growing trouble it is proposed to subdrain the grounds with tile piping.

Concrete walks, $140.00

To complete the work around the premises it will be necessary to lay new foot walks to replace the old ones, which have become worn out.

The winds blow with such force that ordinary wood walks are of little value, and it is proposed to replace the present ones with concrete as the most economical and desirable.

Repairs to dwelling, barn, etc. $116.00

The roof of the barn requires new gutters and repairs to conductors. The roof of dwelling needs some repairs and some of the water conductors should be renewed. A new window is to be put in and other small repairs made. The cornices of the work room attached to tower require repairs and this fences and gates are to be put in order.
