p.13: Medical astrology, temperatments, etc. Begins: "Almightie God ffather sonne and holie ghost three personnes / but one divine essence by his omipotent power…"

p.28: "…The 19 and 20 dayes / of August are dangerous dayes to take sicknes / or hurt."

pp.29-30: blank.

p.31: "A treatise of medicynes good against [th]e pestilence / devided into three partes … / … / Caput. 1. / It often falleth out [th]at throughe default of observing good ordre…"

l.101v: "Dr. Writs [?Richard Wright (1600-1657)] prescription for smale pox for Kate, Mr. Goldsmithes child", and a second prescription for the same dated 14 Xbr. 1654.

l.102: [By a different hand] "13 November 1682 Mr. Fosters prescription for K.D. by John Ewell apothecary at Towster". Another dated 16 November 1682.

p.105v: Verses relating to Robert Carr, Earl of Somerset, and his marriage to the Countess of Essex in 1613, and obliquely referring to the Overbury poisoning case of 1615-1616. The first stanza runs: "The Summeres sunn is set / and it will shine no more / because it was his happles lucke / to marrie with a whore." The third stanza runs: "A Page a Knight a Vicounte and an Earle / From Scotland came and married with an Girle / Such foure to foure weare never seene before / A wife a witch a murtherer and a whore."

The man that is borne in his signe of Cancer that is from the midest of June to the mydest of July shalbe very covetous and of equall ffortune he wilbe merrye and love well weomen that be courteous, wise and well favored he shall have damage by [ensie]. he shall have other mens goode in governement. ther shalbe discord and stryse betwixt him and his neyghbours. he wilbe revenged vppon his enemyes, many shall mocke him & deryde him by his pryde and arogancye. he shalbe in danger of water pften tymes. he wilbe merrye within him self, he shall feele greate grieses and paynes in his bodye, he shall fynd money that is hidden, and he shall have trouble about his wyfe. he shall see his perrill in some certayine yeare of his lyfe but which is best knowne vnto God. At he xxx[ni]tie yeare of his age he shall passe the seas, he shall live accordinge to the course of nature Lxx yeares, And shall have ffortune, fovorable vnto him.

The woman that is borne vnder the signe of Cancer shalbe furious, incontinent ioyfull,and shall suffer many perilles, she shall paye trulye that she owe the, she shall labor sore and take greate paynes til she be xxxtie yeares of age and then she shall have rest. she shall have many sonnes and she shalbe, marryed at xvi yeares old. honors and [ghste] shall fallow hir. she shall have woundes in many places and be in danger of water and the bytinge of a dogge. and shall live after course of nature Lxx yeares. The dayes of Venus Iupiter & Luna are good bothe for the man & woman. and the dayes of Mars are exceedinge evill. But they shall have good ffortune & victorie over their enemyes. The 9. & 7. dayes of Iune are dangerous dayes to take sicknesse & hurt.

Leo is the Signe that rule the in the back, fyees, senues, bones and the gristles of a man. and when the moone is in Leo it is dangerous to be cutt lett blood or hurt in any of theseplaces and it is greater danger in the ende of Leo to take any sicknesse then in the begininge for then he may recover yf he observe a good dyett and governe him selfe well in his sicknes ffor this signe is stedfast

Prientall hott and drye, Colerique ffyerie attradtive and of the mastulyne kynd. When his signe bearethe rule it is good to speake and have conference with greate kinge and Lorde and doe any thinge that is wrought with fyre It is not good at that tyme to applye any medycyne to the hearth the stomack, the Liver or to any of the entralles nor to giveany inward potions for feaare of vomytinge of blood.

The man that is borne vnder Leo from mydd Iuly to myd August shalbe bewtifull valiant, merryfull and eloquent He shall weepe with weepers, He shalbe arrogant in wordes At xxxtie yeares old he shall have some displeasure wayghted him and be in perill but he shall osshue the danger. he shall bestow his beinfitts vppon ingratfull persons, he shalbe honored of good folkes and obtayne his desire and pleasure and he shall have goode by temporall service. he shalbe greate and [puisant] and shall have chardge and command of the communaltie. And shall bothe Loose and Wym and aspyre to greate dignitie, and have three wyves and goe often on pilgrymage. he shall have payne in his sight, have hurt by a fall and be in danger of water, and shall fynd hidden money. At vm yeares of his age he shalbe sicke, and he shalbe in danger of a greate Lord, and at xxxvitie yeares he shalbe bitten with a dogge and be made hole agayne with greate payne, And he shall live Lxxxmi yeares after nature.

The Woman that is in this signe borne shalbe fayer well spoken, pleasant, mercyfull, meeke, & a greate Lyer, Hir first husband shall not longe Live, she shall have payne in hir stomacke, and be much respected by hir neyghbors when she is xvi yeare old, and beare Children by three men and grow to greate riches, be betten with a dogge, be in perill of a fall, And accordinge to nature she shall live Lxx yeares. The dayes of Sol. Mars, & Mercurie are right good bothe for the man and woman. They shalbe greate quarrelors, harded, and mercyfull. Virgo raignethe in the wombe the mydryffe the gattes and sometyme in the somake the liver and the gall and the mylt but [chie flie] in the entralle about the mydriffe And when the moone is in his signe beware of cuttinge in any of these places and it is alsoe dangerous to take any sicknes in the begininge of his signe, and woese then it is in the latter ende. This signe is dubble bodied meridonall of the southe and of melancolique complexion that is cold and drye lieke vnder the Earthe and of ffeminine kynd retractive And when the moone is in virgo it is not good to marrye a mayde least shee be barren all hir life. but then it is good to plant & grasse trees.

The man that is borne in his signe Virgo that is betweene the mydest of August to the mydest of September shall gentlie love his wyfe and be a greate husband, ingeinous, and verie carefull about his basines and will earne stlie and dvour to attayne greate skill and cunninge in the facaltie he dothe prosesse. He shalbe of greate currage and yet bashefull, he will be soone angrye and strvie much to suppresse and surmount his adversaries. he shall not have his first wyfe to live longe with him. he shalbe fortunate xxxm yeares, and will not hyde his substance. he shalbe in perill of water, and have awound with yron And shall live after nature Lxx yeares.

The Woman that is borne vnder his signe Virgo shalbe bashefull and ingenious and shall take paynes for hir levinge and will be marryge verye yonge but shall not long contynue with hir first husband. but hir second husband shalbe of longe lyfe and shall have greate substance by another woman, she shall be in perill of a hurt by a fall and be in [reoperdie] of hir lyfe. she shall endure greate dolor and payne at Tenn yeares of age and yf she escape all these dolors she shall by the course of nature live Lxx yeares. She shall bringe for the virtuous frute and everie thinge shall enclyne to favour hir, she shall reioyce in dwerse ffortunes The dayes of mercurye and of sol shalbe good as well for the man as for the woman, but the dayes of Mars shalbe contrarie.
