I am applied to by W Timothy Fitch and the parents of David
McCloud to undertake to get him released and Mr Fitch will
reimburse the Expence, I must deisre the favour you will please
to write over to Brest know if he be there, and if he is, that
you use your best Endeavours to obtain his release on the best
terms you can, the Ransom is £200 {Sterling} & no doubt some
Expences to pay which pray Endeavour may be as moderate
as possible and I must desite you will please to order it to be paid
as soon as possible, and charge to my account, send me the
amount with all charges that I may receive is of Mr Fitch
I must further desire that when he is released you would pro=
cure him a passage to this place, if any vessel of mine in the
River, I would give him his passage in her, pray get him
released immediately.

I must beg leave to Referr to my next for what I
have further to say, and am with the greatest respect.

Inclos'd you have Bill of Lading and {Account} of Costs of
twenty Bundles of whale bone shipt on board the Elizabeth
Edmund Wendell Master to your address in equal thirds {with}
yourselves Folger & Gardner and myself, which you will please to
dispose of, and Credit my Account for one third the produce.

You have also inclos'd Amounts of Cost of Cargo of
Boston Packett Brig Lydias Cargo and oyl by Hunter, all in thirds
hope on Examination you will find right and you will Credit
{Thomas Hancock & Co} for one third of the produce of each, in regard to the cost
here Messrs Folger and Gardner will settle with you for your third
of all except the Cargo of Brig Lydia your third of which
being £779.. 13..3 {Sterling}. you will please to carry to the Credit
of {Thomas Hancock & Co} & they have accordingly chargd your {Account} with
that Sum.

We shall be glad you will be Explicit in your o=
pinion respecting oil & whether you would chuse a Concern
in more than what will load the Ship & Brig. the whole of
the oil will center with you, Champion Hayley & Buxton &
Symmes you will have a large Quantity in the Fall, for
we are determined the Plan they have laid shall not take
Effect, and should they have any Conversation with you on
