Manuscript volume. The first thirty-nine pages include diary entries from Page's years as an undergraduate student at Harvard College. Dated July 1757 through March 1761, entries includes short notes about daily activities. Topics covered include expenses, academics, clothing, and travel to and from Cambridge. Twenty-two pages covering 1764 through 1781 contain brief listings of items, generally foodstuffs, received from male and female Danville parishioners identified by name in Danville. The final twenty-six pages contain notes listing area deaths, as well as his own thoughts on topics such as "of light" and "jealousy." The concluding pages include rules "Concerning Grammar."

Biographical Notes

John Page was born on October 19, 1738. He received his AB in 1761 and his AM in 1764 from Harvard College. He was ordained as a Congregational minister in Danville, New Hampshire in 1763. He died of smallpox on January 29, 1783.

14 being the Day appointed for the marriage of Mr Elijah Woodbery to Sarah Johnson and Mr Job Dow to Hannah Patec I was invited at boath I went to Mr Bayleys Saw Dow and Hannah maried and intended to have gone over to Mr Johnsons soon enough to come with Woodbery and Sarah but they came while Mr Bayley was marring [marrying?] Dow. So I went Home to Mr Johnson with them and went to Supper there stayed till [8 ?] of the Clock then came to Mr Bayleys again stayed there all night about 12 o Clock we put them to Bed 15 got up first in the House went in to see them gave them a Dram went to Mr Richard Patecs with them M.B. rid with [mee?] at Night came Home by mr Johnsons went in there stayed till 9 o Clock took the other Part of the weding came to Mr Bayleys stayed there all Night 16. went a gunning kild 5 Squirrels a warm Day 17. Mr Bayley preached Woodbery came out Bride and Dow with their Spouses 18 went to Mr Bayleys He went to Hampstead Sandown and Chester I stayed there all Night went to [?] there that night and [?] 19 and in the morning, came Home in the after-noon Madam Bayley came to our [House?] at night went to She [asked?] me to go there for she did not expect mr Bayley would come Hom so I went there and Day Emerson [with?] me and stayed there all night with me as last Night so this night 20 as yesterday Morning so this Morning [at?] Emerson Stayed there with me to diner [?]
