{Honored} Sir

I have had no opportunity to hear whether you have had a Trustee Meeting, and whether any thing hath been done for me, I cannot yet get money to pay off my carpenters, I have almost paid one of them but the other is in danger of being free'd on the account of my keeping him out of his money - my constables have not brought me one single farthing of money for this year which concludes with this month. If I could Borrow Fifty pounds, old Fennor I shd be glad If {Your} Honour can oblidge me either by your selfe or by Hopkinton money and send it by major Jones or if he hath it in his Hands to give him order to let me have it for the present for some little time when I hope my Sallery will come in. I am not in a very good state of Health and cant come to Boston. All the weather by setled, It hath been a very [?] cholly [?] as you have doubtless heard but I sickness is greatly abated then have bat [?] lately about us: Major Jones can acquaint you with the particular Circumstances of the [?] my Son hath had the fever but not to so great a degree or some have had it. he is very comfortable again. Hopkinton May 4: 1756

May it please your Honours your past kindness to me and especially your last Benefaction was so liberal that I was in hope of not being under necessity of making any further application for Reliefe, but being burdened with an obligation to Col Hutchinson late Treasurer to the Colledge and the Honourable Trustees, which [?] hath been of some years standing and not demanded of me for many years before the Death of the Colonal. I was not concerned as perhaps I ought to have been about it; But soon after the Honourable Thomas Hub bard came into the Treasurers office, he acquaint ed me with the account of the sum [of?] borrowed and of the amount of it by reason of the Interest & fall of money which greatly surprised me and gave me great concern about discharging the Debt I should not have [?] suffered this Matter [I?] [?] have laid so long had I not taken encouragement from Col. Hutchinson to have [?] the matter laid before the Trustees for their consideration. Had I borrowed the money with an intent to enlarge my Estate and to have laid it out for that purpose It would not have been so difficult to discharge the Debt, but on the contrary it was not borrowed to supply me with [necessary?] for my Family in a Time when my Sallery being of very small would not more than [halfe?] Suffice for that end, and upon the account of my Ex

Expectation of some Relief by the application of the [?] on my behalfe, I did not apply so often as I shoul dhave done for Reliefe from the Trustees. But not ot trouble your Honours with any further detail of my difficulty. I can with [hearfullness?] leave my case to your Honours consideration and whatever your Hoours shall in your Wisdom amd Goodness think fit to contribute to my Reliefe in this present Emergency shall be thankfully recieved and acknowledged by your Honours most sincere and very much obliged & Humble Servt {Samuel} Barnett.
