My dear Mrs Stanford:

I beg to acknowledge gratefully your kindness in sending me a pass over your railroad - the Southern Pacific. I have not heard anything recently as to the Government suit; but I express a hope that things are progressing favorably, and that you will soon be relieved of that embarrassment, and in a position to do all that your generosity has contemplated for Stanford University.

I shall always take

a strong personal interest in the success and growth of that great institution.

Mrs. McKee joins me in the kindest personal regards.

Very sincerely yours, Benj Harrison

Leland Stanford Jr. University Palo Alto, March 7, 1894

My dear Mrs. Stanford,

My first use of the pen here must be to express my thankful appreciation for the perfect and generous provisions you have made for my comfort while here. The work is so new to me that it is hard - harder than I had supposed it would be - but I have not spared any effort to meet in part at least the expectations of your lamented husband. When I get a little used to this new role of a teacher I hope to be able to find my stay here a recreation.

In the hope of [securing?] you [?] & of then being able to express more adequately my [sense?] of your thoughtful kindness

I am with great respect Sincerely yours, Benj Harrison

Mrs. Leland Stanford
