The German logicians call it methodology; but methodentic is a better word from every point of view.

Such then, being the initial definition of the purpose of logic, perhaps, as a matter of curiosity you would like to hear how I should formulate the final scientific definition of it purpose.
In my opinion, the purpose of logic must ultimately come to be recognized as that of studying all that will be true of signs, or representations, independently of what particular signs have actually been created.
But that view will not concern us in the present course.

Let us begin, then, the study of logical syntax, or the minute anatomy of reasoning.
