Passing over a number of steps for the discussion of which there is no time, I will say that the way to analyse reasoning is to begin by forming a system of symbolization equivalent to a perfectly regular grammatical syntax by means of which every proposition whatever can be expressed as analytically as may be desired, so as to exhibit the logical relations of it parts.

Let us proceed to construct such a system of symbolization.

The first thing for us to decide is how we shall represent upon paper the acceptance of a proposition as true.
