Dear Mr. Long:

I hope you can see from the difficulty I have in answering your letters how impossible it would be for me to commitmyself to a regular piece of writing for the NEW YORK TIMES SPECIAL FEATURES. I would be interested, however, in the possibility of an occasional article which you mentioned. I am seldom in New York, and it therefore might be impossible for us to sit down and talk this over. Could we continue our discussion through correspondence?
