reservations, etc. Had to burn joss sticks all a.m.
the mosquitos were so bad.

September 30, 1922 - Saturday

Miss P. returned soon after 7 this a.m. Got a lot of the
small jobs off hand before chota; darned the hole I
scratched in my white stocking last eve; mended
night gown; put clean linen on bed; got up soiled
clothes; made out list; read Th's paper, & took it & met
W.W. down stairs when I went; took her curtains to
Mrs. E. when I heard her dhoby come; took Miss P's clean
towel to her. Had a card from Miss Campbell. Several
in to say goodbye, Ma Hla & Vea Thon May being the
1st arrivals. Creased & basted damask square & then
after cleaning & oiling machine again, in addition
to what I did last eve, began to stitch in hems; was
nearly half thru at break. Returned & continued;
then darned & mended pink bordered bath towel;
same to counterpane in addition to hemming one
end. The pani woman came in - asking for pi-
son [pison], but never a pie did she get out of me; it is
sometimes just as well not to know the language!
Took down pictures, put away ornaments, & empt-
ied [emptied] water in next room; later emptied waste-
basket [wastebasket] – etc. Hung curtains & then took one set down -
put away; back of room looked lifeless, so got out ex-
tra [extra] piece which I do not want to cut, & hemmed & hung
at back door. Read last eve's paper; attended to clean
clothes; bathed & dressed. My lip still sore & numb. No
S.S. tomorrow but got P's notes & will read in order to
preserve the continuity. Haven't stepped foot on the
ground today. Sprinkled a little this aft. & was dark a
long time. Ma H's register discovered not posted, & brought
in & showed to me; I never even heard of them till
Th., however, so refuse to feel badly about it. Three
sisters left till late this p.m. but finally got off. The
grandmother came for the 3 B. boys yes. aft; they

couldn't go home on acc't of cholrea [cholera]. Three or 4
girls are here in town; 248 on the roll the day we

October 1, 1922 - Sunday

Rather a relief than otherwise not to have to go to S.S. this
a.m.; had a busy day none the less, as I spread my
trunk tray full of unsorted things out on the bed & be-
gan [began] to go thru them. Wrote out the weekly calendars for
6 wks. ahead so I can post on the b. board when I return.
Wrapped up the bks. to mail to Dr. McC. tomorrow, as
I've had them so long, & his wife is arriving, & one
of them - the newest one is hers - so I want her to
find things as nearly ship shape as possible.
