Joshuas Rock N.Y. 4 August 1900. My dear Dr. Abernethy: Mr. Watson got your letter and wrote immediately to me to go with Allegra to Broadway which would be the best answer to your inquiries. He thought Broadway to be about forty miles beyond Whitehall. On looking it up on the best maps we have I see that it is 150 miles from here or more. Perhaps I could get there if I knew the way, but my railroad maps do not know it and my other maps are old and leave it in the middle of Vermont. I should go if I knew how to get there and that you cared to see me, or I should send Mrs. Watson. But Watson did not leave any directives for telegraphing and

as he does not stay in his house Mrs. Watson cannot reach him before Monday when he will write to you. I am five miles from Caldwell and cannot get a paper or any other information. If you could send me directives I might go to Broadway. Or would not you like a little visit at my house. Allegra is in the next cottage and I could meet you or have you met at Caldwell and brought over. Allegra is mature in her ways and would please you I think. There are two or three children in the settlement who have been coached by her in preceeding summers and who liked it very much. I send two photographs which may give you some idea of her looks. One is scratched but it is the only one I have. Very truly Edwd. Eggleston
