Dresden April 20th 1874 Messrs. Osgood and Co Publishers Dear Sirs, I send you the corrected proofs of the first sixty or seventy pages, and also the written MS as far as [my] page 167. From this point on I shall send only the proofs; since [M ?] King will finish the printing in a few days, - quicker than I could work off copy. If you find in the MS any other than verbal alterations from the proof, you can let them stand; for the MS has received my latest revisions. Trusting you will be able to get ready before summer comes, I remain, very sincerely yours Julian Hawthorne
