Dear Mr. Scudder: - I must add another word in answer to your question of the other day. There are some ethical questions which I should like to treat in the A's; but I am not sure of my power to do so as I want. One such question, - responsibility to past and future - I have thought of dealing with under the head "A Woman". If you have any inclination to make a suggestion at any time, it might be very useful, - though I could only promise to obey it if it made a certain kind of appeal of itself. My project for 1897 may interest you. I am hoping to make a volume dealing largely with Tokyo life, - one of the first papers "Shosei" to deal with some unsuspected & extraordinary facts of student life in the capital.

"The Romance of a University" should be the subject of another. There I mention only because of material already in hand. A paper on Izumo days, long unfinished, may develop soon into fitness. Faithfully yours Lafcadio Hearn (Y. Koizumo) Jan 3rd '97 H.E.S.
