Torbay Hotel Torquay, Devonshire - Eng May 7th - 1896 My Dear Clarence, We left Matlock Bath yesterday morning - had lunch in Bristol and arrived here last night, - We don't like it at all and shall leave for North Devonshire this afternoon Barnstable [Barnstaple], probably for a few days, and then Ilfracombe. Mooring about as we are doing I shall get no mail probably until we get up to London in about a week - that will mean three weeks without a word from you, but I read over the ship letter when I get too lonely, and then, as you once said, we can never be lonely again when we have our thoughts and memories of each other

they say there is fine coaching to be had from Barnstable [sic]. They had a mask carnival here last night, and who should I meet amongst the gay crowd but one of my "young men" of the voyage. Of course, he was charmed to see us, and fetched up all his relations to be introduced this being his native town.
