January 23rd / '96 My Dear Clarence, It is 5 o'clock this Thursday evening, and I am tired of practicing, have written to Leicester, Alice Bailey and your mother today, and am now ready for my happy little talk with you. I wrote Alice a very serious little sermon, urging her to do something more definite with her life instead of pining for that which God has not seen fit to give her at least, now.

I feel sure that Alice will lead a noble life when once she is awakened to it, in earnest, when in other words, she comes out of that fatal dreaming period which so often lulls the better nature to sleep and spoil what God intended to be beautiful lives. I wrote her, from my heart this morning, and I have a feeling that God will bless those words of council to her aid. Your bright letter of Monday night and Tuesday morning was such a welcome breakfast guest

It made the tears spring to my eyes as I thought of your love and confidence in me - What would life be to us without each other, - I tremble to think. The picture of your mother is lovely, but no photograph [underlined: can] do her justice. What a joy it will be to have the honor of choosing between your proofs, & so hope they will be good. Darling, I don't know how to advise about the St. Joseph Hospital, you see I cannot ask a hundred questions that I would like to know first.

How closely will you be tied, there? What advantage is to be gained? Will you be in any better position to begin practice after leaving there than at close of regular college course? Would Senn be able to put you in the way of advancement? It looks like a good chance, if hospital work is very much to be desired, but think well over all our previously settled points in regard to Hospital service and its bearing, or lack of bearing, upon the ultimate career, before you decide. Now, darling, you see I am really no help at all except to concisely state the case, or rather question it.

After all, [underlined: you only] can decide what is best for us both. Tell me more about it, if you think I can help you. Now, my dear one, I am going to get this in the six o'clock mail in hopes that you will get it Saturday noon. With a tender loving kiss from your own Sunshine
