Stoneleigh Friday

Well darling - I did promise to write you a long & sensible letter tonight. But I'm afraid that I am not going to be able to satisfy the latter qualification. I've got all sorts of things & pieces of help & advice I might give to you - but I do not feel at all confident about putting all this down on to paper. We seemed to drift rather apart last week & I suppose it must have been both our faults. But it was an awful pity - & makes me still feel apart from you. Not exactly nothing in common - but a lack of confidence - & with you, of all people. I suppose you must feel

very much the same - & that is all caused by sadness about darling little Lisa. But it is going to be too awful if we begin to misunderstand eachother about this - which should & must have the opposite effect.

I hope darling - that we can have a few days together again - not too far away - & put things in a better way.

he really feels quite hopeful about getting me away from this. In the meantime, he is doing nothing about the Ordnance, because of the danger of the two clashing. He has promised to let me know how he goes on.

After seeing him, I went round to my mother's. She is much better I'm glad to say - though she still looks rather pale & wan & weak. Patricia was there, having driven up from Oxford in her car. She looked quite nice - & only had one quarrel - a nasty one - with my father. She still hopes to come & see you all sometime.

sheet - & she was delighted to have it.

I wrote to Vera, & asked to please send my British warm into Allquiet. I had a very sweet letter back from her this morning - saying how much she wished that you lived nearer to them, & asking me to stay there any time I could get away. And Vernon is already home - & apparently well & cheerful. I hope I can get away for the night next weekend & go & stay with him.

I'm off to bed now darling - I was pretty late last night. I'll write again soon,

All my love sweetheart -

Harry
