Leavenworth July 6 1864

My Dear Aunt Rachel,

Though I have preserved your letters I cannot tell which the last is I have often thought of writing to you particularly since you have spoken of it so frequently in fathers letters. In the first place I want to tell you about our school which we consider the best we have ever been to, and which is taught by a widow lady Mrs. Clark. Though the scholars are not the most agreeable companions one would wish for, we have made good progress and are very much attached to our teacher, Sister, Willie and I have been going to school since the middle of last Oct. till the

middle of last month and this is the summer vacation. Mary and I each received a nice prize of poems, and have got through Rays practical arithmetic and shall probably begin the study of algebra in the fall.

Little Alice is the pet and darling of us all. She is quite pretty (some call her a beauty) and is begining to talk but it seems to me she gets on very slowly.

We have not heard from cousin Timothy and James for some time and then they were getting ready to start somewhere but did not know where it would be Much love from all,
