My Dear Mother; - I have read thy letter a good many times, and it is better each reading. If I did not have so much to occupy my time and thoughts particularly I should be sober this summer. It is the wisest way to look for flowers even when you might expect thorns, and the day is a good deal brighter out in the sun than in the house with the blinds shut, so I will endeavor to take the bright side, if possible there is none, to make one. My verse in the bible has done me real good sometimes, "and she shall rejoice in time to come." - I think I can leave a great deal here, and I mean to.

My rommate has been sick for two or three days, but is better now, suppose her beauty struck to her stomach. She is good hearted but don't study any and looks in the glass most all the time. I should want to see a better picture, to employ all my time. We do not have the least

trouble however. This is warranted to be a correct picture [drawing of face] delicate mouth. - paints &c. she dresses very nicely. I am going to write to aunt Mary to-day would sooner take a whipping. I finished my calico a week ago, and mended my other dresses yesterday. We do not have any lessons seventh day. It is very warm, it seems as though I was nothing but a grease spot. I have got the hang of the place as Mr. Arentt said, somewhat. The school and place is better than I expected. The victuals are nice and a plenty of them. We have steak or roast meat or fish twice a day. I have not been hungry at all, have not had soup or hash yet, we have [mafrasses?] which I like. I shall write to Mary soon. How I hope she will get well. I hope thee will write to me as often as thee can. Thy letters do me more good than any others I ever had. I fear thee was disappointed in not going to Yearly meeting. With much love, I am most affectionately thy
