My Dear Mother

I really fell as though the privilege of saying Mother should almost be denied [underline]me[/underline]. for my negligence in writing occasionally a few lines. I know your are anxious to hear from the children, lest your anxiety should increase I dont dare to wait any longer hoping to find more leisure or a more convenient time.

The Children are pretty well now except Sarah has a cold. They both go to school. Sarah at her Aunt [Roxy?] Willie & Tommy on the [Rink?]

On our return from Ferrisburgh we found Sarah about as when we left

with some fever and she did not seem to get any better. We called the Doctor the first time he came, he could not determine really the cause, left a little medicine, came again the next day but one then it was easy to see the [?] trouble. her skin was very yellow the white of the eye also. she looked more like a little Quadroon than a white child. the Doctor gave her Calomel & [Senne?] which seemed to be just what was necessary.

During this time I was suffering much with Rheumatism, or Neuralgia. could not move my head, nor hands nor any part of my body without the most acute pain. Mr. Henderson died Saturday morning that we left your house. I think I told you he was having fits when we left home. he was buried Monday. I rode up there Saturday evening, and again very early Monday morning. I felt the pain

in my shoulder a little before I left home it increased so rapidly I was hardly able to ride home. I took some Powders and next day felt a little better. I think it has not left me entirely yet. I can feel it a little every day, but I am pretty well able to work. The young people have been informed of the limited circumstances of Santa Clas think it rather strange. Willie thinks if he were in Ferrisburgh, Santa wouldn't be so poor. he dont think he is getting to large to hang up his stocking yet. last evening when Sarah was about leaving she says, well Mother I suppose we need not look for Christmas presents this year, and thought it was about as well. she seems very happy and seems desirous to have good lessons. I hope Willie is learning better this winter. he has an excellent Teacher.

he commenced one or two letters to Grand mother some little thing did
