Dear Wm.

I have often thought of you and as often enquired after you I learned by Mc Allester that you had partially recovered your health, but a relapse had taken place which I regret to learn. I hope & trust you will soon recover and be with us to march into Richmond We are with in 8 Miles a Bridge all ready and why delay I have missed you very much I had had some hard trades in some of the moves especially from the Old Camp to Fort Mc[?] near Williamsburgh if you recollect the Rain was very severe just before I left the roads were horrid we have passed through a fine tract of country the fields of wheat have been beautiful you have lost the fine part of the trip I looked for you a long time I hope to see you soon keep up good courage & write me I hope the next mail will find you
