Yours of the [3rd?] inst. is recd. I was glad to hear from you at last! I was puzzled to know where you were! But am glad that you are now safely home! I am sorry your mothers health is not better I hope it is better by this time!- I received several letters from Annapolis which I suppose you had re-mailed. Accept my sincere thanks - It has got to be so late now that it is impossible for me to come to E. Montpelier, as much pleasure as it would give me I am forced to abandon the idea for the present - my Father can not spare me his [team?] half long enough to have

I am bound to come to Montpelier "some time" and if I [underline]ever[/underline] do I am coming to see "Mr Stevens" - No, I have not re-inlisted! have you! - The Qt. Mr. wrote me that an order had been recd. from the Sec. of War saying that all [?] in the Army of the Potomac mustered into the service in 1861 would be kept three years from the day they were mustered into the U.S. Service - How are you [20th?] - [Sept?] - How long is your Furlough? Shall you get it extended? I am going to get mine extended! Have such a promise from a Physician - Dr. Hazleton [formerly?] in our Regt. you know him - - When in Washington did you find out any thing about our ration money? - Please write and write all the 'news'.
