I thankthee very much for thy trouble about the [1/2?] [?]. I did not mistrust as thee had written feared it could not be obtained.

Dear Willie, I read Louise what thee wrote and she exoected I would copy this but I concluded to send the whole. She is a beautiful girl, but a sad [?] I can tell you. She makes me think of Sue Burnett all the time only is much smarter intellectually speaking. She is up to all manner of [?], but is a great favorite with all. Is a beautiful singer and plays on the piano and guitar. I will write thee long letter next time. I was so glad to get thine it was so long and nice. I do not need thy Caesar or Lexicon I am afraid thee would use them if I did not [have?] [them?] here. Love farewell Ann

[upside down:]

That "sotto voce" caused me to [smile?] a few.

I am acquainted with Walter Ware, the reason I have for asking you for this picture, was I wished to see how he looked now, but as he has promised me one, I think yours will do as well, and I hear by your letter that you prefer sending one of your own. It will be very acceptable. I am not your sister's room-mate but her friend.

I know something of it by experience. But I am so much better now that I call myself comparatively well. Since you were in Burlington I have been quite well and have done good business in my studies. I have studied quite hard snce then but do not feel the effects of it at all. I think I am in a way to do something satisfactory now.

Your will see by the date that I am at home. I came home last night and shall stay two weeks, an absence which though unavoidable, is by no means profitable in one view of the case. I have come home to do a little haying, the reason of my so doing I need not state. I shall feel it considerably in my standing two weeks spent in careful service would help me wonderfully. I have taken some of my examinations already. In Herodotus, Algebra, Tacitus, Livy and Analytical Geometry. I did as well as I wanted to in all save Algebra. I wanted to do 20 in that but got 19. A + instead of a - sign took off the one. I reviewed it hastily, and as I had not looked at it for nearly three years I hadn't time to work all the
