sent to the front on account
of his chills. I answered his
letter but have not heard
from him since.

It was quite fortunate for him
that he was wounded on the
Chickahominy for he could be
easily transported to the "White
House", and receive care sooner
than if he had been shot
in the Wilderness. Let us hope
for the best.

I am in comfortable health
this Summer. My stump behaves
quite well and gives evidence of
healing. Hope it will close
up soon. It gives me little
pain and I can use it al-
most as well as I could last
summer when I was at your
place. It does not discharge
and and has a very comfortable

appearance. My general health
is much improved. I am quite
fleshy. I have the liberty of
the town and visit as much
as I choose. This breaks up the
monotony of Hospital life.

I hope to be off after my [underline]ar-
tificial[/underline] in a few weeks.

I hope this will find you all
in comfortable health. I was sor-
ry to hear of so much illness
in your family in the Spring.
Will come and see you as soon as
I can.

With best wishes

Your Friend

Henry

my pen coarse and ink plenty.
