My dear friend,
Rachel B. Stevens, for months we have heard nothing from thee or of any belonging to thy well remembered family. We are not insensible to the change which a few rapidly passing years have wrought on almost all in thy dear home; and the near sympathy of our hearts often goes out to meet thee in thy retired home; and to assure thee of our regard and tender love.
Sufficient is the alteration constantly occurring to show us that beyond the limits of this world we are to look for our only unchanging home.
If there are scenes known only to thyself, on which thy eye can turn, only, with tears; wilt thou then remember that there were "strong cryings and tears offered to Him that was able to deliver", and offered, too, by Him who will save, to the uttermost, all who come unto God by him.

For want of fullness of expression in regard to firm reliance on the Divine Arm under the greatest affliction; and in respect to full faith in the promises of God to men I say, for want of expression myself I have inclosed for thee the 88 and 89 Psalms with a short comment on the latter. These will tell thee of a Faith that overcomes the world.
