the [underline]sick interruptions[/underline] - the time seemed short - as happy days always are - how pleasant it was to see thy [underline]happy[/underline] smiling face - hear thy hearty laugh - & jokes - by the by - has thee seen a runaway horse eating out of a [underline]bushel basket[/underline] lately. We do not know as [underline]that[/underline] one has stopped yet. [Horace?] sends all manner of good wishes - hopes thee is well by this time - Howard goes to school - likes well - The Norcross bridge took a notion a few nights ago to [underline]"drop"[/underline] down to the water - so we live quite retired on this road - Gen. Thumb & troop are expected to the village tomorrow - Will write to thee often - & know thee wil do the same - much love from sis Mary -

My darling brother,

Thy good letter was received last evening - very glad to hear the chills gave thee a slight - hope they will continue do so - thee must get some more [underline]pills[/underline] if they do not - Wish I had written to thee before - but that they might change thee about so - should not know where to find thee - till we heard from thee - Dear mother seems to be gaining slowly - wears her dress every day - wipes the dishes - knits, reads and sews - but has to be careful about getting tired - for then she has enough pain about her to remind her that disease

is not [underline]entirely[/underline] gone - If nothing new sets in - do not see why she wil not get to be considerable well again. She is still here, and hope she will be contented to stay a good while longer. Thomas got over his sore throat without being any worse than he was that morning thee left - Jane is having a hoarse cold - but no diptheria as yet. Thomas - Dorcas and she have gone today to Calais to attend the funeral of a little child - some connection of the Bliss's I believe. Frank's nose grows [underline]"beautifully[/underline] less" - he has gone to see his Hannah. Charlie has got to be pretty well.

Aunt Paulina has been here once since thee left - Clara Gray is there, is not willing

to go away - I remember a [underline]couple[/underline] [once?], that [underline[was[/underline] - Have not heard from [underline]Caroline - Freemon Daggett[/underline], about the same. Abbie Hamblin confined to the bed mostly - looks very pale. Hinkly has returned from [underline]market[/underline] with quite a stock of goods -

Thee does not tell us what thee is going to do at the [underline]Front[/underline] when thee gets well enough to go - suppose tho of [underline]course[/underline], thee is to be with Capt. Galt - of [underline]course indeedy[/underline] thee will not go into the ranks - thee is not strong enough - and I do not think thee wishes to - and thee knows how sad twould seem to us to have this. What a dear good visit we did have with thee - not withstanding
