USA Genl Hospital Burlington, Vt. May 11th 1864

My Dear Friend:

Your letter of 3d inst was only rec'd to-day. It may be too late for you to visit me now but I write at once. I returned the 29th of Apr. Stood the journey pretty well. I had a piece of bone taken out of my stump Tuesday following. Since then my stump has done finely. The swelling has gond down, the cake has disappeared, and it is nearly healed.

I am suffering from a hard cold and nausea at the stomach. I can't go to you but if you can I wish you would come here. I would like to see

very much. Come if you can. Bad news from our Regt only ninety men and five officers remaining. Success to our arms! I need [?] no more. Please remember me in the kindest manner to your people.
