We have been to Planefield to meeting today - Charles was married this morning - was to church with his pretty bride - they have just gone by with 3 or 4 couples - Thomas and Orlana went over too - say they are getting along nicely - and Thee may stay long as Thee wishes to - Tis a very snowy day - much like the one when we were married - I am feeling better than I did the evening Thee was here last - accept much love from thy affectionate

Mary.

Dear Mother

As thee will be very anxious to hear from me now, I will try to overcome the part of thy anxiety, caused by Henry's letter to thee. At that time, I could not write myself, as I could not sit up long enough to have my bed made, even, but since then, I have improved so much that, to-day I am up most of the time, and feel quite well, though as [underline][Saxe?][underline] expressed it, I am rather "yellow about the gills", and thee will see that my hand is not very steady yet. I have had good care, both from Drs. and Nurses, and have got along beautifully. This morning before I was up, our [underline]model Corporal[underline] came up to see me, and brought me bread for the day, as our Cook is sick.

I toasted it on the stove and with some Vt. butter and strawberries made a [underline]real good breakfast[underline]. H. has been very attentive to my wants, and has been with me, more or less every day, though some days, he was so busy he could not come till quite late, and we are near one mile apart and it is very bad walking. We have about two inches of Snow to-day, so it seems some like home; night before last was so warm that we needed the tent door open, to sleep comfortably, & to-day seems only like our first snowy days in Vt. -

Please excuse my brevity as I shall want to write again soon.

Write soon; there is no war news of interrest to write

Farewell

R. B. Stevens W. B. Stevens.

Dear precious mother -

Is [not?] it so good - much more than we could expect - to hear such pleasing news from the dear Willie boy - Was glad to hear thee could go to Ferrisburgh - we shall feel anxious to hear how thee finds the dear sufferer - If it will not disturb her - give my love to her - It always seems to me that any one in her situation is to be envied - so nearly thro with care and suffering - [underline]almost[underline] within the heavenly mansion, no more to [?] forever.
