U.S.A. Gen. Hospital Patterson Park, Balto. Aug 31st 1862
Dear Mother:
I did not think, when I maiedl my letter yesterday, that I should write thee so soon again, but a sudden change of residence makes it my duty to do so. Just as I put that in the Office, an order came, for them to send 75 Convalescents to Baltimore for the purpose of making room for wounded, from the fight. Charley & I were on the list & started from the Capital at about [9?] 0clock, last evening. We were out in the cars all night & came here at eight this morning

This hospital is about two miles from the City of Balto. Md. & is a tolerable place, I think; the quarters are Barracks but are well arranged & here we are away from Catholic rule, as the Sisters are not one of the institutions of the place & other females do the nursing. I like this change very well. There are a no of the Boys here I find but I have not seen many yet.
As there is no news I will not write more. Please write soon & direct to me at Ward 5 Patterson Park Hospital, Baltimore, Md.
