Camp Near Williamsport October 31st 1862.

My Kind Friend -

Willie is writing a letter home and has kindly given me permission to send a line which opportunity I gladly improve, tho' I believe I am not indebted to you in way of letters.

I am once more with the Army - doing duty in the Co. too. I left the Hospital last Tuesday week, arrived at Hagerstown next day. Came via Harrisburg at which place I staid over night. I at once went on duty and have done duty constantly since. I am now acting 1st Sergt. ranking as 2d. Capt [Wetheren?] desired me to come back for awhile at least, but I choose to return to my Co. for reasons which may be apparant sometime.

Willie and I are together once more

I was glad to find Willie looking so well. He is much beter than I have seen him for a long time. I hope he will be able for duty. He has been promoted to Sergeant and has charge of the drill of the recruits.

My leg tho' not well is much better and has done me good service since I came back. I hope it will not give out. I get my knapsack transported. I have nothing to carry on march but Blankets etc. I am very fleshy more so than ever before. I would recommend Philadelphia as a good place for sick soldiers.

I was very glad to get back to duty once more, and the boys were glad to see me too. Capt Carpenter would not consent to have me go back to Brigade Head Quarters as he had but one Sergt. in the Co. & he was sick. I am in hopes to do better by & by. I must close this. To-morrow we move again. Whither I know not. Rumor is busy but I know not what to believe.

Please remember me to all who may inquire.

Your friend

Henry.
