"Camp Parole" Annapolis April 21st 1864

My dear MOther

Thy letter of April 15th is received. I am still blessed with health as good as I need ever expect. Have had no return of the Chills, since the one I wrote of. I have been in Town this afternoon and find it as dull a place aside from military stir, as ever I wish to be in. I have written Timothy and James to-day, as I should have done sooner had I known their address. I am sorry to hear they have been so afflicted. You will see accounts of the arrival of Prisoners, from the Hospitals of Richmond and of their emaciated and starving condition. It makes me indulge in many revengeful feelings towards a community that will perpetrate such outrages on humanity. It may not be right but my Yankey Blood is too strong to bear such heating and not approach the point of boiling.

I am glad thee is able to have an easy time this Summer, though it will seem odd to me to see anyone else presiding in the Dairy. How many cows have you this Summer? My time is to expire so soon (June first) that I have ceased trying for a furlo. as I should have only seven days to serve after it would expire.

Do not think I would not like to be there though. I have had company this evening, and it is so late I must close. I will send another soon. Give my love to all the folks.

Ever thy loving Son.

W. B. Stevens
