Mr. O. D. Dana Boston, Mass. Dear Sir, In reply to your favor of the 16th wish will say there is evidently some slight trouble with the Mowers at Mt. Auburn which they do not exactly understand how to remedy. and we would here suggest that possibly they have not properly oiled. then again they may have the revolving cutter set down on the bed-knife too hard. This is frequently the case where people have been using the [illegible] Mowers as they have to be set close together to work well. The writer expects to be in Boston again in a short time and will there attend to the matter. But I think if you will convey these suggestions to them they will have no farther trouble Hoping there will be no further trouble we remain Yours truly [Stamp: Charborn & Coldwell M'f'g Co., By] W. Dear Sir, Yours of 12th inst. duly read. I am glad that "relic of barbarism", the iron fence, is going down. I hoped to get over but cannot at present. Thank you for estimate of resodding. I shall have ample time to consult the various owners & get their decision before the suitable time for doing that work. I trust I said eno', when we met abt pruning the maples trees around the lots. They are the beauty of the lots. Pray do not trim them any more. "Woodman spare those trees." Truly yrs. C. P. Channing.

1882-04-10 Letter: Charles C. Smith, Boston Gas Light Company, to [Superintendent], about the Whittemore Lot 185, 2014.020.006-007
Letter: Charles C. Smith, Boston Gas Light Company, to [Supt.] 1882
Subject: Letterhead. [in pencil]
OFFICE OF THE BOSTON GAS LIGHT COMPANY, 24 WEST STREET, BOSTON, April 10, 1882
[written in left margin] 1^25^ per foot. Brown has plan [underlined]
Dear Sir;
I wish to make some inquiries about the Whittemore Lot (No. 185, Rose Path) now represented by my wife.
What is its size? 300 [in blue pencil]
Is there not a strip of land adjoining it which belongs to the corporation, and which can be used for enlarging it?
If so, how much land?
In the original survey, or in setting out the hedge, there was some mistake made, so there was at one time such a strip.
My wife, who is in London, where our only son died on Saturday, knows better than her sisters about the facts in the case; but it is desirable to ascertain what can be done before her return.
Very truly yours,
Ch^s^ C. Smith.
