Frances Devens Parrish diary, 1917-1919
Frances Devens “Daisy” Parrish was born in Boston, Mass., and moved to Nantucket, Mass., as a child. During World War I, she served as a Red Cross nurse in France and was awarded a Croix de Guerre by the French government. During her time as a nurse, she kept a diary and wrote letters that were frequently published in the Inquirer & Mirror. Later in life, she wrote a memoir titled Poilu, Petit Chien De La Guerre A Nantucketer's Memoirs of the Great War. She died in New York, N.Y., in 1968.
