6323 Large billed Marsh Sparrow Female (?) im. 17.2 g. Shot by
Lamb at Colnett yesterday morning (see p. 2546).
6324 Crotalus exsul In middle of road abut 7 miles
north of Santo Domingo; 100 ft. alt. Coiled partially,
in sunshine; rather lethargic; did not rattle even
when teased, and did not strike till [auxed?]
Length, relaxed, to base of rattles, 1130 mm. (44 inches, about).
6325 Rock Wren Male ad. 16.5g. Shot this morning 10 mi. east of San
Telmo, abut 700 ft. alt. from rock ledge at margin of valley.
6326 Horned Lark Female ad. 28.8 g. Shot on "dry bog", that is, an
elevated open grassy (once was) hilltop surrounded by
brushland, at fully 2800 ft. alt. Other horned larks heard;
about 6 mi. west of San Jose'.
Sept. 27
6327 Pipistrellus hesperus Male (testes large) 3.3g. 66x28x5x9.
Shot at early dusk last evening, over open ground
margined by sage-brush. One other bat, of this species, seen.
6328 Peromyscus eremicus fraterculus female 17.5g. 184x102x19x15. Trapped
in sage brush on granite gravel near boulder.
6329 Peromyscus maniculatus Male 16.0 g. 155x74x21x15. Trapped
under sage-brush.
6330 Neotona lepida intermedia Female 134g. 323x155x33x25. Trapped
under granite boulder surrounded by sage-brush and
near a cherry thicket; sign seen.
I put out 30 mouse and rat traps last night, all
on dry sage-brush gravelly ground or up brushy
ravines -- with above results.
