Andover Saturday

Dear Samll.

I under stand by your father that yor uncle thinks common chairs is sufficint answers the end well he sais when theirs is such chair, everything ectroydenary is expected and if so disadvantage attending ther may be some disadvantage attending. But if has amnind to take the chairs at the 2 years end what need you be concernd about that the conditions they would not have them at that price opon any other conditions I don't sopose I told your father perhaps they wood more be wanted perhaps than 2 years if you lived at coledg after you took your degre & he though youd beter be absent one year. I sopose there will be no difficulty about furniture its very likely if you don't have these chairs there will be some others and soon. Hope you wont make your self uneasy about thes things it must be just as your father pleases. You say he must never expect a beter peneworth he must take his chance I shant be wanting in the affair. If you have any broken thenne dont fail to bring them hom.

In very grat hast from your very affectionat mother Elizabeth Phillips

Andover, March 28

Dear Son Samme

I rejoyce with you when you rejoyce & mourn when you mourn: if you have ben enabled to conduct or preform in any degre superior to some of your aquaintance, be thankfull and Be not high minded But fear: consider from whence all your Dependence is. & to home all your obligations are for every favour. You manifest a gratful heart for the favours you have recivd, it is with no less pleasure I believe that we embrace the oportunite the oportunite to pleas you

Consider a first caus in every thing. that you are Distinguisht in providence, to be a giver for such favours.

I rejoyce that you have got so agreable a gentelman as Mr March he seams to be likely to be a Blessing to that society. Mr Labonen preachd owr lectur yesterday from the Mathew 5 & v20 showing that persons might be very religous & not occeed the rightiousness of the scribes & parases for God looks at the heart. This prayer I allso thought was exceding good.

Your father went yesterday to Ipswich Court. Expect he will bring your things next weak. Your granfather remains weak & poorly & granmother is as well as common.

Thay remain poorly at Mr Holts the young wido is confind to her bead with a slow feaver & lowness of spirets.

Dont think of any news hope these lines will find Madam Foxcroft more comfortabel I am sory to hear of her long confinement you will transmit all proper regards to the famile

I hast from your ever

Affectionate Mother
