Battle of Guilford Court House, N.C.

General Cornwallis, of the British Army, announced that he had conquered North Carolina and called on the well-disposed to rally around him. It was necessary to show the patriots that they were not abandoned.

General Greene advanced across the river Dan and pitched battle at Guilford Court House. It was an intense conflict. Cornwallis announced to Parliment that it was a victory for the British but Fox declared that "another such victory would destroy the British army." Cornwallis was compelled to fall back to Wilimgton, and abandon his hold on the Carolinas except for a few places on the coast, and shortly going to Virginia and surrender.

The stone from the battlefield was kindly sent to us by Mr. Julian Price, of Greensboro, N.C.
