Beersheba Springs, July 24 [1858]

My dear Elliott:

Barney has written me that on the 19
he sent the maps off to Baltimore to be lithographed. It was by
my instructions they were sent to Baltimore - they were sent by
express. - He has friends in that city who will take pleasure, he
informs me, in superintending the work, who are draftsmen and accus-
tomed to such work. He instructed them in advance also, to get the stone ready for the work when it should arrive, so that I think as
much dispatch as possible may be expected. 5000 copies are to
be prepared, and they will be sent to you as soon as ready to be
pasted in the address. I think I would wait for them before issuing
the address as they would add greatly to its force.

I am requested by Col. Armfeld to say to you
that he wishes to contribute as much as $200. towards increasing
the number of copies of the address over and above the 5000. After
the types are set and the lithography executed, an additional num-
ber of copies must be had at a small cost. He supposes 200$ should
get out 5000 copies more. Be that as it may. Let his additional
amount go as far as it can. He desires me to say, he will send you
a check for that sume when ever you shall advise him you have occasion
for it.

When you are ready for distributing it,
I would get some one connected with the press to make you out a list of
all the leading newspapers in the southern states - those of Kentucky
and Virginia and Missouri as well, and also a large number of the
leading papers friendly, probably, to our enterprise at the North,
and have a copy of the address sent to each. Let them all get
