Mary E. Moore also read a remarkable poem said
to have been written by one of our soldiers in the
Phillipines who, deploring his wasted life, wished that
in the beautiful spring time, when the sap was
flowing upward to make new growth everywhere,
that some source of spiritual growth in himself
might work a similar rejuventaion

Hallie Bentley contributed "Good-bye God bless
you", one of the last poems written by Eugene Field;
and Alice G. Stabler "Only Awhile" both very good.

Louisa T. Brooke's selection treated of "Life's two teachers"
example and experience the latter most trustworthy
of the two.

Albina O. Stabler gave us startling statistics of the
famine in India 40,000,000 human beings are
said to be unable to procure sufficient food, the
Missionaries have deprived themselves to aid their
wretched neighbors and cholera had added its
horrors to the already over-flowing cup of misery in
India.

Mary B. Thomas read the amusing bogus letters
of regret supposed to have been sent to Edna V.
Thomas, toastmistress of the late Phrenaskeia
banquet at Belmont. The said letters were ostensibly
from President Mc.Kinley, William S. Bryan Queen
Victoria, Susan B. Anthony, Paul Kruger, Queen Wilhelmina
and Admiral Dewey; the latter had
"transferred" the invitation to his dear wife. The
secretary gave in addition the verses, one for each
member of Phrenaskiea which accomplished a
birthday cake cut upon the same merry evening.
The display of cut flowers at this beautiful Association
was the finest we ever saw at such a gathering,
roses being especially noteworthy. The attractive
garden of our hostess proved that somebody at Wrenwood
can raise lovely flowers, luscious fruit, and fine vegetables
in the same enclosure. Well kept borders of grace formed
a fitting frame to a most pleasing picture of beauty, plenty
and thrift. Adjourned to Brooke Place-
