Dear President Tressider,

I am an alumnus of Stanford and I received your letter asking for suggestions as to how Stanford might best serve veterans returning to school in the post war period. At the time I was not optimsitic enough to think that the post-war period would not wait for more leisurely consideration. Now I write, not because my opinions on your question have any worth or novelty, but because I want some guidance personally.

A thing to avoid, I think, is the setting up of anything "special" for servicemen, in courses, or requirements, or administrative treatment. I think most of us get suspicious of anything that is "slanted" at us, and after all, an interlude of soldiering hasn't changed the basic
